Took a road trip to Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco to see Grant Thursday. Nice venue. Interesting area - while standing in line outside I saw my first San Francisco nudist. He was just strolling down the street along with everyone else. Crazy town, lol. Luckily everyone at the show was fully dressed.
Grant decided to sit down to play, with his big book of songs on his music stand so he would remember the words to all of the new songs, and some of the old. He was accompanied by Kimon Kirk on upright bass and background vocals. Kimon added a nice touch to Grant's new songs. The new songs are mostly slow, reflective ballads which show off that lovely Grant voice. I enjoyed them a lot. Lots of laughs, too, including his mentioning that he was happy to see a lot of familiar faces - family, old classmates including someone he went to school with since Kindergarten, and some who have been to more of his shows than he has (that one was directed at my table, lol).
"Honey Don't Think" was especially beautiful. Was nice to hear "Lazily Drowning" live - Grant said he felt like playing it as it's kind of a "spooky song". Great show all around. There are a couple of videos so far on youtube, but I haven't seen any of the new songs posted there yet. Next show here in L.A. on Saturday.
